THE INNOVATION: TRANSPORT MECHANISM FOR LARGE TELESCOPIC STEEL COVERS n the future, high feed rates and high accelerations will no longer preclude large, heavy telescopic steel covers. Hennig, one of the world’s leading suppliers of machine protection systems, has developed a transport mechanism especially for this type of application, for speeds between 98 feet and 262 feet per minute (30 and 80 meters per minute). In an innovative solution, the new transport mechanism eliminates high limit stop forces and corresponding noises in all operational positions, moving smoothly when the covers are pulled apart as well as when they come together. Test runs at speeds exceeding 328 feet per minute (100 meters per minute) and accelerations exceeding 1g were absolutely trouble-free. Large masses and a large number of boxes are a welcome challenge for this transport mechanism. The system is not positively driven; as a result, it doesn’t need to move the entire mass. Depending on the length of the stroke, the only boxes moved are the ones required for clearance. The mechanically muffled units travel on guides which guarantee extremely high stability. WAY COVER REPAIRS GET EATON BACK TO WORK IN SHORT ORDER The Hennig Inc. service center in Chandler, Oklahoma, keeps Eaton Hydraulics
running all the time with their way cover repair services. Hennig manufactures
the facility’s telescopic way covers at the facility in Machesney
Park, Illinois, and services the client locally. Often, when servicing
brands other than their own, the Hennig service team reverse engineers
the designs and replaces components through its own inventory or local
suppliers, to meet or exceed the OEM spec. Again, since the emphasis
is on fast turnaround, this ability to engineer the solution and make
the repairs is vital to keeping the customers’ shops up and running.

WAY COVER REPAIRS HELP BOSCH KEEP WORKING WITHOUT A “BREAK”. At the Hennig Inc. service center in Charlotte, North Carolina, technicians perform a variety of services on the way covers for original equipment made by its parent company in Machesney Park, Illinois and also repair and/or replace covers made by other manufactuers. For example, at the Robert Bosch LLC Chassis Systems Brakes Division facility in Johnson City, Tennessee and the Diesel Systems facility in Charleston, South Carolina, there are occasional breakdowns of the way covers protecting the mechanical motion components on large work centers. Under a performance contract, Hennig engages customers such as Bosch for a full package of maintenance, repair and replacement services on way covers. Robert Bosch LLC builds a series of brake components and complete braking systems, using assorted machine tools and machining centers. Parts produced at the Johnson City and Charleston facilities include brake rotors, brake drums, disc brakes and parking brakes as well as master cylinders, brake boosters, fuel injectors, unit injectors, ABS materials and related brake assist assemblies.
